Wild live

In the uncultivated areas of the valley, nature dominates: carpets of jewel-like wildflowers cover the mountain slopes, creating a lush paradise for walkers who can always find shelter and shade under ancient juniper trees.

Each season covers the mountains with its charm, but it is during spring when the air is filled with natural aromas and intoxicating colors, providing a landscape rich in colors and contrasts, a refuge for partridges and wild rabbits.

Laurisilva Forest

The island of La Gomera is the proud guardian of an environmental heritage of inestimable importance. The laurel forest, about twenty million years old, dates back to the Miocene and Pliocene of the Tertiary period. However, the passage of time, which turns it into a "living fossil", does not seem to affect its dynamic energy. This subtropical jungle is mainly composed of species endemic to Macaronesia. It is a vast ecosystem that is home to diverse fauna and flora, where trees from the lauraceae family stand out (to which the laurel forest owes its name).

Birds

In Hermigua the birds are the best barometer of the change of seasons. In April, the appearance of the first blackbird babies announces the arrival of spring. Here you can find, observe and listen to all types of birds that come and go, such as the wild canary, a native species from which the much appreciated Canary Bird, the chirrín or the greenfinches have been derived. Every day you can see kestrels or small falcons gliding around in search of food. At night, the corujas take over and ensure that everything is calm, while, near the coast, the song of the shearwaters can be heard.

Stargazing

Hermigua is a privileged setting to observe the night sky. The overwhelming immensity of a sky full of stars and the nocturnal beauty of the landscape create a magical environment. Excellent atmospheric conditions and clarity make it possible for visitors to enjoy stargazing for most of the year. Without being something that is promoted by institutions, sadly there is no regulation against light pollution in Hermigua, as it is a very narrow valley with few scattered houses, we can enjoy the stars like in few places in the world.
